Goal setting provides direction and keeps me motivated, helping me stay focused on what truly matters as my situation evolves. It allows me to turn abstract ideas into tangible goals and gives me a way to track progress. By adjusting my objectives when necessary, I can stay aligned with the best opportunities available to me without losing sight of my larger ambitions.

Originally, my short-term goals were to secure an internship at ESPN and establish a business that could generate at least $10,000 in profit within six months of graduation. These goals were designed to help me gain either valuable industry experience or entrepreneurial success early in my career. However, as I continued working toward them, I realized that better opportunities were available to me. Pursuing a marketing position at my current company, Western Express, became a more realistic and beneficial goal. This role aligns with my experience, builds on existing relationships, and offers a more practical way to develop the skills I need for future career growth. As a result, I decided to focus on obtaining this position instead of continuing to pursue the ESPN internship.

In addition to shifting my career focus, I also chose to put my business on hold to concentrate on building experience at work and focusing on my studies. Trying to launch a business while managing other priorities proved too challenging, so I made the strategic decision to pause it. Once I have more experience, I’ll revisit the idea with better preparation and a stronger foundation. Attending CES is also part of my short-term goals, as it will allow me to explore new industry trends and connect with people in the tech world, which is essential to my long-term growth.

Looking beyond my immediate goals, I plan to attend multiple conventions such as CitizenCon for game innovation and CES for technology innovation. While these events are within reach, attending LTX will have to wait a few more years due to the organizers deciding to wait a few years before the next one. These conventions are vital for networking and staying informed about trends in the gaming and technology industries, both of which are crucial to my professional growth.

Adjusting my goals to reflect where I am now has been a necessary and thoughtful process. Shifting my focus from an ESPN internship to a marketing position at Western Express ensures that I can make the most of the opportunities available to me right now. Putting my business on hold doesn’t mean I’ve given up on it; instead, I see it as a chance to build the right experience first. These adjustments keep me on a productive path toward achieving my long-term ambitions. Every goal I pursue—whether short-, medium-, or long-term—helps me build a career that reflects my passion for technology, gaming, and media.
